NOTICE TO ALL CANDIDATES

Please be reminded that the closure date for all Interim and Final Submissions and/or documentation in respect of applications for backdating of practical work experience will be 29 July 2009. All documents will be assessed during August 2009 and Assessment Reports will be tabled at the Registration Committee Meeting scheduled to take place on 27 August 2009.

The office of the Registrar of the Council will provide applicants, on request, with an up-to-date list of SACQSP accredited institutions whose examinations are acceptable pre-requisites to registration.

The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession will not accept membership of a professional body as proof of prior learning.

A workshop to prepare applicants for Council Exams I and II wild be held in Midrand on the 28th August 2009 and the closing date for the receipt of applications for admission to the workshop is 16h30 on Friday, 14 August 2009.

Conference Organising Committee:

The Conference is being organised by representatives from the of the Education Standards and Research Committee of the SACQSP, comprising Professors Maritz (UP) (Chairman of the ESR), Verster (UFS), Le Roux (SACQSP), Pearl (UKZN) and the Department of Quantity Surveying and Construction Management of the University of the Free State. The chairperson is Prof Tinus Maritz, Head of the Department of Construction Economics at the University of Pretoria. 

Scientific and Technical Committee:

This committee will consist of national and international academics and representatives from industry. Prof Basie Verster will act as co-ordinator of the content, papers and programme. 

Conference Host and Secretariat:

The South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Profession (SACQSP) is acting as host for the conference. Secretarial, administrative and management matters are under the care of the Conference Organising Committee.

Objectives:

This second international conference is intended to bring together postgraduate researchers, academics and industry representatives from Southern Africa and further afield to deliberate issues of common interest with the aim of advancing the quantity surveying profession and construction industry. It will provide a platform to highlight the vision of the profession towards a bright future in a changing environment. CPD certificates will be issued to delegates.

Conference Scope:

The scope of the conference is to encourage active debate amongst researchers, post-graduate students and practitioners. Submissions by students, personnel who are working in the quantity surveying discipline and those who are concerned with the challenges that the South African quantity surveying profession faces, are particularly welcome. The conference seeks to explore current advances in research relevant to the present and future state of development of the profession and industry, nationally and globally. Papers should focus on new research themes, practices and topics, innovative research strategies or well articulated methodologies applied in the profession’s context. Reporting on work recently completed or work in progress is especially welcomed. The aim is to address the role and the contribution of all who add value to the performance of the industry and profession.
